Eduard Lobau, sentenced to 4 years

The activist of the Young Front, a youth opposition group, was sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment in a medium-security penal colony. Eduard Lobau and Zmitser Dashkevich were attacked by a group of unknown men a day before the 2010 presidential elections. After short scuffling police showed up and arrested Dashkievich and Lobau, accusing them of beating two inhabitants of Minsk.

According to the opposition members this whole issue had a political character. The goal was to prevent the two men from participating in the peaceful demonstration to be held the following day. Amnesty International recognised Dashkevich and Lobau as prisoners of conscience.

«I will never ask my enemy for mercy, » the activist stated in the letter sent to his relatives in September, 2011.

Eduard Lobau was arrested on December 18, 2010 and sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment for alleged «especially malicious hooliganism». At the current moment he is kept in penal colony №22 in Ivatsevichi.
