Lidziya Yarmoshyna: No web camera surveillance at elections

The exact day of the upcoming parliamentary elections might be appointed in June, 2012, state information agency Belta quotes Lidziya Yarmoshyna, chairperson of the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus on elections and holding republican referenda.

«The outside date of the probable parliamentary elections holding is September 23, 2012,» Lidziya Yarmoshina added.

Answering the question on the participation of ODIHR/OSCE observers in the elections the official stressed that the issue would be considered by president Aliaksandr Lukashenka and the Belarusian Foreign Affairs Ministry. «As for OSCE [taking part – Belsat], there is every likelihood that a separate decision will be made on the subject,» she said.

According to the head of the Central Commission, the CIS mission will fully participate.

Talking about adopting some methods of presidential elections in Russia, Lidziya Yarmoshina noted that definite recommendations from their Russian colleagues have been taken into account but it is controversial that all of them would be put into practice. In particular, webcams will not be applied in the election process due to their expensiveness: equipment costs reach $ 4.5 mln which amounts to half the election budget.
