Former political prisoner sentenced to ten-day arrest


Pavel Vinahradau was sentenced to 10 days of arrest for being behind the toy protest on February 10, 2012 in Minsk.

The activist of Tell the Truth civil company was adjudged guilty of violating the order of holding mass rallies (art.23.34 of the Administrative Code). The hearing of his case chaired by judge Tatsiana Matyl was conducted in a district court of Minsk.

Another Tell the Truth activist, Alexander Artsybashau, who intended to hand over a parcel to Vinahradau was detained in the court. According to preliminary information he is charged for violating the order of holding mass rallies as well.

On February 10, 2012 as part of «Stop beefing!» initiative a youth wing of Tell the Truth civil campaign organized an extraordinary protest action. The activists placed plush animals on a flowerbed not far from bus stop «Independence Square». Hand-made placards with slogans like «Alexander, release political prisoners!», «Where is the freedom of the press?» on them were fixed to the toys.

Pavel Vinahradau was detained on February 21, 2012 in Minsk. His family found out only in the deep of night that he had been taken to a temporary holding facility.
