7 years after crackdown on post-election protest in Minsk (never-before-published photos)

Seven years ago, the 2010 presidential election resulted in the crackdown on the peaceful demonstration and arrest of hundreds of protesters, passers-by and even candidates for presidency.

On the evening of December 19, over 50,000 voters came to the centre of the city. Police let the protesters march from Kastrychnitskaya Square to Independence Square (‘Ploshcha’) and start a rally there.

An hour later. a group of people tried to enter a government building and broke some glass, which might well have been a provocation. Hundreds of participants were severely beaten, including young girls and seniors. According to the official report, 639 persons were arrested, dozens faced criminal prosecution.

Сярод збітых і затрыманых былі і кандыдаты ў прэзідэнты: яшчэ да пачатку акцыі на Уладзіміра Някляева напалі людзі ў цывільным, яго забрала «хуткая дапамога».
