633 detainees in Sunday’s protests - ministry


On 6 September, 633 persons were detained during protests throughout the country, the press service of the Interior Ministry said on Telegram on Monday morning.

363 of them are facing trial in custody.

As of 9 pm on Sunday, there were nearly 200 names on the list of Minsk detainees made by human rights centre Viasna; it being constanly updated. About 50 persons, including journalists, were detained in otther regions/ On that day, marches of unity were held in numerous Belarusian cities and towns.

Protests against the results of the presidential election have been going on in Belarus since August 9. They are often accompanied by brutal detentions, and during the first days of 9 to 12 August detainees testified to various forms of torture. According to human rights activists, just over 7,500 people were detained in August 2020.
