Lenin’s statue attacked


Three activists of the opposition group Young Front attempted to disrupt today celebration of the 94th anniversary of the October Revolution. The victim was Lenin’s statue in Minsk, hurled at with eggs.

The celebration was held this morning at the Independence Square in Minsk, were roughly 100 sympathizers of the Communist Party of Belarus – one of the parties sanctioned by the regime – gathered to lay flowers in front of the Lenin’s statue. Among those present were two MPs – Ihar Karpienka and Tatsiana Gowubyeva. Three young people attempted to interrupt the rally held by the communist party by throwing eggs at the statue and chanting “communism to tribunal”. They did not manage to escape and were caught by undercover police.

During the anniversary celebration, speakers stressed the importance of events of 1917. In their opinion, Belarus today implements values of the revolution – equality and freedom.
