Polish Parliament approves construction of wall on border with Belarus

The fence of 5.5 meters in height will be equipped with motion sensors and a monitoring system. It should fence off about half of the Polish-Belarusian border, which is about 400 kilometers long, reports Euroradio.

The government plans to build the wall by summer 2022 and to spend €353 million on the project. After parliamentary approval, the construction law must be signed by Polish President Andrzej Duda. Human rights activists criticize building the wall and insist that it will not be able to solve the problem of the influx of migrants into Poland.

Lithuania has begun construction of a 4-meter-high fence on its border with Belarus. The Lithuanian fence has two elements and consists of barbed wire pyramids. The border with Belarus is planned to be fully fenced by September 1, 2022.
