This year, the action in memory of the Stalinist repression victims, “Night of the executed poets,” took place in at least 38 cities around the world.
The mourning event “Night of the executed poets,” which had been held since 2017 in Kurapaty near Minsk, had to change the format for the first time. This year, Belarusians around the world read the poems of executed poets online or posted recorded videos. The reasons for the departure from the traditional readings at the site of mass execution of the Belarusians by the Stalinists are obvious – the difficult situation due to the coronavirus and the threat of detention of the participants.
