UK may seize real estate of Russian oligarchs in case of attack on Ukraine

In a recent interview with Sky News, British Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss said if Russia attacks Ukraine, the British government may go ahead with any sanctions against the Kremlin.

Elizabeth Truss said that “any company of interest to the Kremlin and the regime in Russia would be able to be targeted.”

“So there would be nowhere to hide for Putin’s oligarchs or Russian companies involved in propping up the Russian state,” she said.

The foreign minister did not rule out that, as part of the sanctions, the British authorities may go to confiscate the real estate of Russian oligarchs in London. She did not elaborate on this issue, though.

For his part, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that London is considering doubling the number of its troops deployed in Eastern Europe. He noted that Britain “would not tolerate their destabilizing activity, and we will always stand with our Nato allies in the face of Russian hostility.”

“If President Putin chooses a path of bloodshed and destruction, it will be a tragedy for Europe. Ukraine must be free to choose its own future,” the BBC quoted Johnson as saying.
