Researcher of mass repressions Ihar Kuznyatsou was dismissed from the Belarusian State University on October 27th. After working there for 23 years, he was fired and tried for reposts in social networks. But his case was sent for revision, Radio Liberty reports.

According to Kuznyatsou, 17 denunciations on him were written on behalf of “concerned citizen Prokharau A. A.”. those were statements ranging from “rehabilitation of Nazism” (including the famous photo of a group of soldiers holding a trophy Nazi flag) to complaints about the reposts (including the materials of Belsat).

Prokharau also complained about the district police officer, who “showed loyalty” to Kuznyatsou and thus “entered into criminal collusion” with the historian.

Kuznyatsou emphasized that the materials he reposted were about history, education, and the European Union — “no extremist content.” But they were from the Belsat and Tut.by websites, recognized as totally “extremist media”.

BSU had a one-year contract with Kuznyatsou, since he had reached retirement age. Formally, he was not fired, but his contract was simply not renewed. Earlier, he was offered to write a resignation letter, which he refused to do.

In Kuznyatsou’s opinion, dismissal in the absence of formal penalties contradicts the collective agreement.

In 23 years of work, Kuznyatsou has published about 120 books, 67 of which are textbooks and manuals. He ranks 92nd out of 2,500 BSU professors in terms of various activities and the number of publications.
