Father of large family, political prisoner Viktar Syadou sentenced to 3 years in jail

Pershamayski district court of Minsk finished hearing the criminal case of Minsker Viktar Syadou, human rights centre Viasna reports.

The man was charged and found guilty under Art. 293-2 of the Criminal Code (‘participation in mass riots’). On the night of August 11, being at the intersection of Surhanau and Kuibyshau streets, Syadou took part in the construction of barricades and threw ‘two objects’ onto the roadway, the prosecution states.

The Minsker was arrested on October, 16. Belarusian human rights watchdogs recognised him as a political prisoner.

In court, Sedov have admitted that he did put a stone on the roadway and threw another stone onto ot. According to the defendant, he was just choked with emotions amid the political situation in the country. He addressed his family, apologising for ‘causing a great deal of sorrow to them’.

“I hope you survive with God’s help,” he said emotionally.

On Tuesday, judge Anastasiya Lyaikouskaya sentenced him to three years of imprisonment in a medium-security penal colony.
