Dutch broadcaster gives up name Wit-Rusland in relation to Belarus

NOS broadcasting company from the Netherlands has announced that they would call our country Belarus more often than Wit-Rusland.

The company said in a statement that Belarus has been in the news a lot since the 2020 elections.

“At NOS, we have long held on to the name Wit-Rusland, while Belarus is becoming more and more common in the Netherlands and many Dutch media,” the company said.

But because of the widespread use of the new name, “we will use Belarus from now on,” stressed the NOS.

Protests in Belarus have become a strong incentive for the countries, calling our state “White Russia” to change its name to Belarus. For example, the Dutch edition De Volkskrant decided not to use Wit-Rusland anymore, while German Der Spiegel has given up on Weißrussland.

The Foreign Ministry of Denmark made a similar statement. Earlier, the Foreign Ministry of neighboring Sweden made a similar remark.
