EU outlines conditions for lifting sanctions against Belarus

The European Union allows for lifting sanctions against Lukashenka’s regime for improving the political situation in Belarus.

The exiled EU ambassador to Belarus Dirk Schuebel has spoken about the possible lifting of sanctions in an interview with the portal Zerkalo.io. Of course, abolition is possible only under certain conditions.

“If we see changes from the Belarusian side and serious steps towards their people (the release of political prisoners, ending violations of human rights, establishing a dialogue with the democratic opposition and civil society), we are ready to gradually abolish the existing restrictions,” said Dirk Schuebel.

Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz supports the strengthening of sanctions.

However, considering what is happening in the country now, Europe says it is ready to accept new sanctions.
