Belaruskali has decided to challenge the decision of the Lithuanian government to terminate a long-term contract for the transportation of fertilizers through that country. The Vilnius Regional Administrative Court representative, Audris Kutrevicius, confirmed that the complaint was filed on January 28 this year.

Earlier, the Lithuanian government had ruled that the agreement between the Lithuanian railroad and Belaruskali did not meet national security interests. As a result, starting from February 1, Lithuanian carriers will stop the transit of Belarusian goods through its territory.

The agreement between the Lithuanian Railway and Belaruskali on the transit of fertilizers was valid until the end of 2023. Under the contract, the Belarusian manufacturer supplies 11 million tons of fertilizers per year. But on December 8 last year, the U.S. sanctions against Belaruskali came into effect.
