Katsyaryna Andreyeva and Darya Chultsova nominated for PRIX Europa prize


The imprisoned Belsat journalists have been nominated for the award on behalf of Polish television.

The initiative to nominate Andreyeva and Chultsova for the “Journalist of the Year” award was accompanied by widespread support from the journalistic community throughout the region, including Belarus, Lithuania, and Ukraine, reports TVP. About 200 representatives of mass media signed up for their nomination.

The “Journalist of the Year” award has been given at the PRIX Europa festival since 2017, with journalists from Austria, France, Turkey and Germany receiving it in previous years. This festival is the largest journalistic festival in Europe, it is held annually in October in Berlin and unites online media, television and radio.

Katsyaryna Andreyeva and Darya Chultsova were detained on November 15, 2020, during a live broadcast from the scene of a violent crackdown by security forces on Perameny Square. On February 18, both were sentenced to two years in prison under Article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus — “Organization of Acts Grossly Violating Public Order.” They are serving their sentences in Homiel women’s correctional colony #4.
