Yevgeniy Shevchenko who is a Verkhovna Rada deputy and a Ukrainian friend of Alyaksandr Lukashenka has been prosecuted for high treason, he reported on Facebook. It was allegedly done by SBU on the basis of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

“They are claiming I created the “Russian world” in Ukraine. They could not find a dumber reason to fulfill the order and remove a competitor. This is related to my friendship with Belarus,” wrote the deputy.

The Security Service of Ukraine said that “they did not initiate a criminal case against MP Yevgeniy Shevchenko under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” writes The Ukrainian Truth.

Yevgeniy Shevchenko has actively supported the current Belarusian regime this year. In February, he became a guest of the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly. On April 20, he again met with Alyaksandr Lukashenka. According to Lukashenka, the meeting was supposed to be a good signal and contribute to the development of relations between the two countries, because “there are still people in Ukraine who respect Belarus.” The faction said that at the talks with Lukashenka Shevchenko acted as a private person, not as a representative of Ukraine.

On May 23, Shevchenko praised Lukashenka for the detention of blogger Raman Pratasevich.

He was soon expelled from the ruling “Servant of the People” faction.
