Political prisoner Andrzej Poczobut, journalist and public figure, board member of the independent Union of Poles in Belarus, has been behind bars for a year already because of the so-called Poles’ case.

On March 25, the law enforcement officers came to the apartment of Andrzej Poczobut. They searched the premises, detained the journalist, and took him to the Minsk detention center on Valadarski street. He was charged with “inciting religious and ethnic hatred” (Part 3 Article 130 of the Criminal Code), together with the chair of the Union of Poles Andżelika Borys and others. At the end of August Poczobut’s custody was prolonged for three months.

Political prisoner Andrzej Poczobut has already received three letters from Yury Vaskrasenski, but he refuses to write a petition for clemency to Alyaksandr Lukashenka. However, Vaskrasenski stated that he would still seek Poczobut’s release.

Poczobut responded that he had not authorized anyone to act in this way in his case, including Vaskrasenski.
