On July 26, a Minsk court passed sentence in the criminal case against 26-year-old Minsk resident Yahor Mikhailau, the HRC Viasna reports.

Under Part 1 Article 289 of the Criminal Code (“Act of terrorism”), he was accused of setting fire to a T-72 tank at the railway station in Minsk by throwing a “Molotov cocktail” with the inscription on January 31.

A video of the burning tank appeared on the Internet in early February, but the state media described it as a fake, and the Ministry of Defense showed the tank undamaged and intact. However, the prosecution stated that as a result of Mikhailau’s actions, there was an “objective risk of loss of life.”

Judge Alena Bushava passed the sentence that the assistant prosecutor of the Frunzensky district, Dzmitry Khavauka, asked: ten years in a strict regime colony. The accused listened to the sentence with his hands cuffed behind his back. This is not the end of Mikhailau’s prosecution: another criminal case was initiated against him.
