Number of political prisoners in Belarus reaches 515


The number of political prisoners in Belarus has increased. On June 25, the list of political prisoners included eight more people at once.

Human rights activists have recognized the following people as political prisoners:

Dzmitry Tsimafeyeu was convicted on February 17, 2021, by the Leninski District Court of Mahilyou under Article 369 of the Criminal Code to insult the head of the traffic police from Babruisk two years of restricted freedom by sending him to an open-type institution. He was sent to serve his sentence;

Ryhor Mamanovich was convicted on May 15, 2021, by a court of Stolin district of Brest region under Article 370 of the Criminal Code for tearing down the state flag to one year of restriction of freedom with referral to an open-type institution, sent to serve his sentence;

Maksim Tatsyanok was convicted on February 26, 2021, by Kastrychnitski District Court of Minsk under Art 339, part 2 and Art 369 of the Criminal Code for hanging on the fence an installation in the form of stuffed animals with photos of NA Speaker of the Council of the Republic National Assembly N. Kachanava and Minister of Internal Affairs I. Kubrakou was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in an open institution;

Dzianis Zayancheuski was convicted on February 26th, 2021, by the Kastrychnitski court of Minsk under part 2 of article 339 and article 369 of the Criminal Code for hanging a stuffed installation with photos of N. Kachanava and minister of internal affairs I. Kubrakou on the fence. He was sentenced to three years of restriction of freedom and sent to an open-type institution to serve his sentence.

Uladzimir Sokal was convicted by a court of Dziatlava district of Hrodna region for publishing on the Internet insulting and threatening comments about a police officer and sentenced to two years in jail on June 9, 2021;

Syarhei Treshchanka was convicted on June 24th, 2021, by the Homiel regional court under article 130 of the Criminal Code for incitement of social hatred against police officers to three years in prison;

Syarhei Malanchuk was convicted on April 23, 2021, by the Leninski district court of Hrodna under Article 369 of the Criminal Code for the online insult of the former head of the Interior Ministry Yury Karayeu to two years of restricted freedom in an open institution, sent to serve his sentence;

Andrei Zhulyakou was sentenced on June 16, 2021, by Minsk district court under article 368 of the Criminal Code for insulting the president to one year of jail.

Thus, as of 25 June, human rights activists have already recognized 515 people in the country as political prisoners.
