War in Ukraine: Day 4


We have tried to summarize the fourth day of the full-scale war that Russia wages in Ukraine.

In Ukraine

The situation in Kyiv is now calm. It is under the control of the Ukrainian army and territorial defense. At night, there were several skirmishes with sabotage groups. Zelensky’s office reported that a column of Chechen special forces was destroyed near Hostomel.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported a downed missile that was fired toward Kyiv from the territory of Belarus.

Ukraine controls the cities of Chernihiv, Mariupol, and Kharkiv. In the Chernihiv region, locals independently stopped a column of Russian tanks.

In Vinnytsia, gunfire was heard in various districts of the city during the night, and sabotage groups of the Russian army operated there.

The town of Nova Kakhovka in the Kherson region was completely taken over by Russian troops. The information was confirmed by the city’s mayor Volodymyr Kovalenko.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to the Belarusians, suggesting they make the right choice and wake up: “Kyiv was attacked at 4 a.m. Someone has such a sense of humor, like in 1941. And you were sleeping, brothers Belarusians, and we woke up. But you are asleep now. Make the right choice. I am sure it is the main choice of your great people.”

Oleksiy Arestovich, the adviser to the Ukrainian presidential office, appealed to the Russian and Belarusian military and promised guarantees for those who agree to lay down their arms. Arestovich stressed that the Ukrainian side does not consider those who have laid down arms prisoners.

Also on Sunday, Volodymyr Zelensky announced the formation of an international legion. To enroll in it, you need to apply to the Ukrainian embassy.

In Russia

Obozrevatel reported that about 5,000 contract soldiers in Belgorod rioted and refused to go to war with Ukraine. Formally, the contract servicemen explained their refusal to take part in military actions in Ukraine by the fact that it was not stipulated by their contracts.

Russia for the first time acknowledged losses in the war with Ukraine. Information about the death of officer Nurmagomed Gajimagomedov emerged after the head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov expressed his condolences to the soldier’s family.

Putin ordered the defense minister and the chief of the General Staff to put the Russian army’s deterrent forces to a special combat duty regime.

About 1,500 people were detained at anti-war rallies in Russia.

In Belarus

Lukashenka admitted that rockets were launched from the territory of Belarus towards Ukraine. According to him, such actions were a “forced step” that protected Russian positions in our country from Ukrainian missile divisions.

The Telegram channel “Motolko help” reported that a Russian government plane had landed in Minsk. At the same time, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said a delegation had arrived in Belarus for talks with Ukraine. According to him, the delegation included representatives of the Foreign Ministry, Defense Ministry, and other agencies, as well as the presidential administration.

Zelensky’s office confirmed that the Ukrainian delegation will still meet with the Russian delegation at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border near the Pripyat River. It was reported that Lukashenka had taken responsibility for ensuring that all planes, helicopters, and missiles located on Belarusian territory would remain on the ground during the talks and the return of the Ukrainian delegation.

Ukrainian cyber troops attacked the website of the National Bank of Belarus, reported by Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov. In addition to the National Bank, a number of other strategic Belarusian sites were also affected by the attack.

At the same time, Belarusian cyber guerrillas carried out another attack on the Belarusian Railways. As a result, Belarusian Railways were switched to manual mode, while Minsk and Vorsha hubs were paralyzed. The stated purpose of the attack was to slow down the movement of Russian troops.

Belarusians took to the streets to show that they are against the war in Ukraine. Near the polling stations for the so-called “referendum” they chanted “Glory to Ukraine!” and “No War!” As a result, more than 300 people across the country were detained for anti-war actions.

In the world

European countries have agreed to disconnect Russian banks from SWIFT, announced the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. Now the assets of the Central Bank of Russia, amounting to 643 billion dollars, are frozen.

Ukraine has officially filed a lawsuit against Russia with the International Court of Justice in The Hague. Kyiv is trying to hold Moscow responsible for distorting the concept of genocide, which was used to justify the aggression.

Dmarket, a platform for trading NFT and In-game Metaverse items, canceled all accounts of users from Russia and Belarus. The funds were sent to support the Ukrainian army, said Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

Kazakhstan’s Defense Ministry has officially announced that the country will not send its troops to Ukraine.
