The prominent Belarusian author was 73 years old.

“A great man, an ardent patriot, a brilliant poet and philosopher, whose name is already lettered in gold in our history, has died. This is an appalling loss for Belarus. We will be studying and conceptualizing the fruits of his work for a long time. The legacy he has left is our national heritage. Goodbye, our dear friend!” the Technology publishing house said on its website.

In the early 1970s, Razanau worked as a teacher of the Belarusian language and literature. Later, he contributed to Belarusian newspapers and magazines, became a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR. He was elected vice-president of the Belarusian PEN Centre.

Ales Razanau is the author of 24 books. In addition to writing poetry and poems, he made translations from Lithuanian, Latvian, Georgian, Bulgarian, Serbo-Croatian, Czech, and English.
