Istanbul Criminal Law Academy has published statistics showing the number of people behind bars per hundred thousand people.
According to the data provided by the Academy, Belarus comes first: 345 people in prison for one hundred thousand Belarusians. There are more than 31 thousand prisoners for 9 million people.
The second place is occupied by Turkey, where there are 335 prisoners out of 100 thousand.
Iceland and Norway have the least number of prisoners – 33 and 49 respectively per hundred thousand people.
In Belarus, as of July 25, 584 people have been recognized as political prisoners.
