In autumn 2020, Alyaksandr Lukashenka spoke about the necessity of constitutional reform. The third version of the Constitution draft was prepared since he was not satisfied with the previous two. On March 16, 2021, Lukashenka signed a decree on the establishment of the Constitutional Commission, which consisted of 36 members. On March 26, the collection of citizens’ proposals to the new Constitution draft was launched. It is expected that by the end of 2021, the draft of the Basic Law will be ready, and in early 2022 it will be put to a referendum.
