According to Belarusian Energy Minister Viktar Karankevich, work on the second unit at BelPP is almost completed. It is planned to be launched this year, as the press service of the agency reports.

The first unit at BelNPP needs to stop for preventive maintenance. The works will last for 80 days, said Energy Minister.

“This is maintenance works, done annually at nuclear power plants to ensure a stable operating condition of the equipment. Expanded control of technological systems, metal control of the equipment of the reactor and turbine compartment, and other activities will be carried out,” said Karankevich.

The first reloading of nuclear fuel will be done in the framework of planned preventive maintenance. Every year about 25% of the fuel needs to be replaced.

The second power unit is 96% complete. It is expected that the reactor unit will be brought to the minimum controllable capacity level of 1% of the nominal figure. The authorities are also planning to put the second unit into commercial operation as early as this year.

Hackers earlier received a report, which shows that BelNPP was launched with thousands of flaws caused by haste and inadequate builders’ qualifications. The plant was unplugged at least eight times during its first year of operation.
