Maryia Kalesnikava's complaint not satisfied, she remains behind bars


The Minsk City Court has rejected the appeal of Maryia Kalesnikava’s defense against the extension of her detention. She will remain in custody until 8 May, according to the press service of Babaryka.

The previous detention period expired on March 8, but Maryia Kalesnikava was not released. Only a day after the expiry of her term, it was reported that the authorities had decided to keep her behind bars. The investigation extended the detention of Kalesnikava in jail until May 8.

Member of the Presidium of the Coordinating Council Maryia Kalesnikava is accused of calling for seizure of power (Part 3 Article 361 of the Criminal Code), conspiracy to seize power in an unconstitutional manner (Part 1 Article 357) and the creation and leadership of an extremist formation (Part 1 Article 361-1).

Kalesnikava was detained on September 7. And only two days later her colleagues found her in the detention center in Minsk.
