Police detain entire family by putting tear gas inside apartment

On June 19, police officers came to a family named Skarha in the Serebryanka district of Minsk. As HRC “Vyasna” observers write, the reason for the police interest is a sticker with the Chase on the window in the room of daughter Yana.

According to the family neighbors, when police came, only Aleh Skarha was at home. The security forces used special means to open the door to the apartment.

“There was a knocking and shouting in the entranceway. They [law enforcers] demanded that I open the door, said there was a ruling. Later the father was taken out. She [the daughter] was taking an exam at the institute at that time. The law enforcers unscrewed a peephole cover in the apartment and turned on the gas – that’s how they forced the door open,” neighbors say.

The wife, Svyatlana Skarha, went to the police department of the Lenin district to find out the circumstances of the incident and find out what happened to her husband. When she arrived there, she was also detained. The police officers called their daughter Yana from Svyatlana’s phone and told her that her mother would not be released until she arrived. She went to the police department, where she was also detained. At that time, the law enforcers began a search of the apartment.

On Sunday, June 20th, she called her acquaintance and asked to meet her to pick up the phone. A young man Andrei Yaroshkin went to the meeting with the girl. The guy was detained – there were police officers at the place of the meeting.

On 21 June, there were trials in Leninski Borough Court against Aleh Skarha and Andrei Yaroshkin. Andrei was sentenced to 15 days in jail, presumably under Article 19.3 of the Administrative Code (“Appearance in a public place in a state of intoxication”).

The case of Aleh Skarha was considered by the judge of the Leninski district, Yulia Inchyna. The man was charged with two reports: part 1 of article 24.23 (“Unauthorized action”) and Article 24.3 of the Administrative Code (“Disobedience to a lawful demand”). Two officers of the Leninski police department came to the trial to testify against the man. At the trial, the man said that he repented and admitted his guilt. As a result, Inchyna sent the case for “revision.”

According to preliminary information, the entire Skarha family was released. Andrei Yaroshkin is serving a 15-day arrest.

Updated. Minsk police Telegram channel says: “Two men mentioned in the publications have been brought to administrative responsibility, the women have not been detained. The police did not use gas.”
