For a year and a half, the shortage of doctors in Belarus has increased by more than 7 thousand workers. At the beginning of 2020, the country lacked 3 thousand medics, while by the end of June 2021 – more than 10 thousand, reports Euroradio.

As of June 21, the Republican bank of vacancies included 3,071 specialist doctors, 3,038 nurses, 1,040 paramedics, 1,222 sanitation workers, 1,079 veterinarians, 451 physician assistants, 373 pharmacists, 165 midwives, and 114 medical recorders, statisticians, and disinfectors.

For example, the Dzyatlava Central District Hospital lacks 107 employees at once, while the Polatsk Central City Hospital needs 102 employees, and so on.

Young graduates cannot fill in all the vacancies. It is not possible.

Authorities don’t notice mass dismissals

Meanwhile, Health Minister Dzmitry Pinevich said on the air of “Belarus 1” on June 19 that there were no mass dismissals of doctors in the country.

“If you and I were to see a mass dismissal of physicians, we would have seen it firsthand,” said the minister.

Some medics were victims of political layoffs. Also, according to the White Coats Telegram Channel, at least 189 medics in the country died during the coronavirus pandemic.
