Human rights activist Marfa Rabkova kept in jail for 3 more months


Human rights activist Marfa Rabkova will remain in custody until June 17. She will be kept in custody for three more months, Viasna reports.

Coordinator of the volunteer service of the human rights center Viasna, Marfa Rabkova has been kept in detention center #1 on Valadarskaha street for more than 6 months. The investigators have extended her detention by three months. She will remain behind bars until June 17, which will make it 9 months from the date of detention.

After her detention Marfa Rabkova was charged under part 3 of article 293 of the Criminal Code (“Training or other preparation of persons to participate in mass riot or financing of such activities”). The punishment under this article is imprisonment for up to three years. On 11 February she faced new charges under part 3 of article 130 (“Incitement of racial, national, religious or other social enmity or hatred, committed by a group of persons”), as well as under part 2 of article 285 (“Participation in a criminal organization”).

The human rights activist faces up to 12 years of imprisonment.
