Anarchists sentenced to long prison terms in Minsk


On December 22, the Minsk regional court announced the verdict in the criminal case against anarchists Dzmitry Dubouski, Dzmitry Rezanovich, Ihar Alinevich, and Syarhei Ramanau.

They were found guilty of illegal actions with firearms, ammunition, explosives, and their transportation across the border, as well as of committing acts of terrorism.

Judge Valer Tuleyka assigned sentenced the anarchists to the following terms:

Ihar Alinevich and Syarhei Ramanau – 20 years in prison each;

Dzmitry Razanovich – 19 years in prison;

Dzmitry Dubouski – 18 years in prison.

The anarchists were detained on October 28 last year near the Ukrainian border. The Interior Ministry said that they found firearms, laptops, GPS trackers, photo cameras, and special outfits in their possession.

After their arrest, the General Prosecutor’s Office said that these “persons united into a group no later than October 15 and conspired to commit acts of terrorism in order to influence decision-making by public authorities and to destabilize public order. Also, “Group of Alinevich” was suspected of setting fire to the traffic police department in Mazyr and the cars near the prosecutor’s office in Salihorsk.

Ihar Alinevich was first detained in 2010 by the Belarusian secret services in Moscow and placed in the KGB remand prison in Minsk. In May 2011, a Minsk court sentenced him to eight years imprisonment in a reinforced regime colony.

He was charged with malicious hooliganism for attacking the Russian embassy, as well as for taking part in an action near the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus, attacks on a casino, the Moscow-Minsk bank office, and the detention center in Minsk. In 2015, he was released by pardon and left the country. In 2020, Ihar Alinevich returned to Belarus to join the protests in the country.
