Over 1.5K illegal migrants detained at Belarusian border in July


Over the last 24 hours, Lithuanian border guards arrested 70 more migrants from Belarus, who had illegally crossed the border, informed Lithuanian border authorities.

Of the 70 arrested aliens, 62 introduced themselves as Iraqi citizens or had documents from the country.

In July alone, the number of apprehended foreigners exceeded a thousand and a half; by midnight of July 20 to 21, it was 1,567 people.

All in all, 2,228 illegal migrants have been detained on the border with Belarus this year. This figure is more than 27 times higher than in 2020. Among those detained at the border, there are mostly Iraqi citizens — 1,215 people. Also detained were 182 Congolese, 123 Cameroonians, 78 Guineans, 74 Iranians, 69 Syrians and Afghans, 68 Russians, and other citizens.
