On June 21, singer Uladzislau Navazhylau, frontman of the metal band “Gods Tower,” was sentenced in Homiel. He was found guilty of “insulting a public officer” (under Article 369 of the Criminal Code) and was given the sentence that the prosecutor asked: three years of freedom restriction in an open institution, reports “Homielskaya Vyasna.”

Uladzislau pointed out in his final statement that he had a dependent minor child and wife. He did not deny his guilt – he only said that he had not intended to insult a particular person and was ready to apologize. Navazhylau’s defense, according to Onliner. by, insisted that the comment did not constitute a crime.

Navazhylau told Belsat that the commentary read as follows: “This Salavey is an extremely stupid boar.” He wrote these words under the video of the publication “Silnyie Novosti” about meeting the regional authorities with indignant Homiel residents on August 16, 2020.

Chairman of the regional executive committee, Henadz Salavey, took it as an insult, even though he didn’t come to the trial.

The band of Navazhylau started in Homiel in 1989 under the name “Chemical Warfare.” In 1992 it changed its name to “Gods Tower” and started playing in the “doom metal” genre with a touch of ethnic and pagan themes. The band played at some of the biggest festivals in the West. The band broke up in 2002 due to the guitarist’s illness (and then death) but reunited in 2010. The band’s genre is called “pagan metal” in the West, and “Gods Tower” is referred to as one of the pioneers of pagan metal and one of the most famous metal bands in Belarus. The band recorded three full-length albums, several mini-albums, and singles, and in 2005 the “Gods Tower” tribute appeared.
