Public initiative head Korban on trial

The trial against Aleh Korban, leader of the public initiative “Alternatyva,” has started at the Maskouski district court in Minsk. The case is heard behind closed doors, Volha Korban told Belsat.

Judge Volha Malashanka has ruled that the case would be heard in private. Aleh Korban, recognized as a political prisoner, is tried under Article 342 of the Criminal Code (“Organization and preparation of acts gravely violating public order or active participation in them”).

Aleh Korban was detained on October 25 last year, his apartment was searched. He was first sentenced to 15-day detention under Article 23.34 of the Administrative Code (“Participation in an unsanctioned mass event”), and after he was transferred to TDF #1.
