Diplomats of Western countries and Japan congratulate Belarusians on International Mother Language Day

Foreign diplomats have recorded a video greeting for Belarusians on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day.

“On the occasion of the International Mother Language Day we asked diplomats of the EU, UK, Switzerland, USA and Japan to choose the Belarusian words they like most, to which their hearts respond most these days,” reads the Facebook statement of the European Union Delegation.

The National Commission of the Republic of Belarus for UNESCO together with the National Library of Belarus have also prepared their video.

Lyrics to the poem “Batsykaushchyna” by the classic of Belarusian literature Uladzimir Karatkevich are read by members of the committees of the National Commission of the Republic of Belarus for UNESCO.

Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya has held a nationwide dictation. The event was timed to the Mother Language Day, which is celebrated on 21 February.
