Belarus gains from Putin’s sanctions: Food supplies to Russia to increase 1.5 times
Belarus plans to increase food supplies to Russia 1.5 times in August-December 2014, Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Miasnikovich told journalists during his working trip to Mahiliou region.
According to Mikhail Miasnikovich, in money terms the volumes of food sales to the Russian market will increase 1.5 times as compared to August-December last year, news agency BelTA has learned. The main exports to Russia will include dairy products, butter, cheese, skimmed milk powder and a number of other commodities. Food exports to the Russian market in August-December 2014 is expected to bring Belarus $200-300 million.
At that, last week Belarusian President Aliaksandr Lukashenka warned officials against stripping the domestic market of products in view of the increased demand for Belarusian foodstuffs in Russia.
On August, 6 Russia’s President Vladimir Putin signed the Executive Order on Special Economic Measures to Protect the Russian Federation’s Security. This document imposes immediate bans, for one year, on imports of certain agricultural products originating from the countries that supported anti-Russian sanctions. The document bans the import of pork, beef, poultry, fish, cheese, milk, fruits and vegetables from Australia, Canada, the European Union, the United States, and Norway.
