Polish PM Morawiecki says Poland is ready to close border with Belarus

Poland is considering more extreme action against Belarus, including closing borders, transit, and trade crossings. It will come as a consequence of the migration crisis created by the Belarusian regime on the border with the European Union, stated Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki.

He clarified that Poland is ready to close new crossings, transit, and trade opportunities to put economic pressure on the Belarusian authorities.

“We are considering steps that include more and more serious economic sanctions, including the closure of the Polish-Belarusian border by Poland,” he said, stressing that everything will depend on the actions of the Belarusian authorities.

“We want to give Lukashenka a chance to step back and return migrants to their countries of origin,” added Morawiecki, recalling that so far, Poland had decided to close only one border crossing point in Kuznica.

Prime Minister added that Poland is currently dealing with a new type of war on the eastern border, where the weapons are migrants, disinformation, and Poland is dealing with a hybrid war, which was started by the authorities of Belarus and Russia.

Earlier, Polish authorities delivered an ultimatum to the Belarusian side. If the situation on the border does not get stable by 21 November, Poland will stop rail traffic through the Kuznica checkpoint.
