EU to consider Russia's oil embargo

European Union governments will meet this week for a series of summits with the president of the United States, who will arrive in Brussels on Thursday, Reuters reported.

NATO, EU, and G7 summits have been scheduled. Diplomats are working on the fifth package of sanctions. To force Russian President Vladimir Putin to withdraw troops from Ukraine, the EU, along with Western allies, has already imposed a series of sanctions, including freezing the assets of the Russian Central Bank.

The Baltic states and Lithuania, in particular, are pushing for an oil embargo, Reuters sources said. Still, Germany warns against acting too quickly as energy prices for Europe are already high. The past four sets of sanctions have failed to force Russia to stop its war against Ukraine.
