Minsk: Contracts worth almost $700m signed at military hardware expo


About 15 contracts to the tune of $700 million were signed at the international military hardware expo MILEX 2014, Chairman of the State Defense Industries Committee Siarhei Gurulyov told the Belarus 1 TV Channel.

The contracts were signed by the State Defense Industries Committee and companies of the defense sector. There are plans to sign more high-profile contracts. According to Sergei Gurulev, Belarus cooperates with 60 countries in the defense sector and exports 70% of products.

Speaking about cooperation with Russia, the head of the State Defense Industries Committee said that about 100 Belarusian enterprises deliver nearly 2,000 products to 300 Russian companies. Russian products are purchased by 70 Belarusian companies of the defense sector.

Mr Gurulyov remarked that Belarus and the United Aircraft Corporation of Russia are mulling over Belarus’ participation in the manufacture of aircraft. By the 1 September a concept of developing Belarusian enterprises will be worked out. It will be harmonized with the similar concept of the United Aircraft Corporation. “We have already decided what we will produce. We will not repair, we will manufacture. We will require new jobs, specialists, modernization of enterprises,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes him as saying.

It was the seventh military hardware expo MILEX in Belarus. Partaking in the event were almost 80 Belarusian companies and educational institutions. Enterprises and universities of the Defense Ministry, the State Border Committee, the Emergencies Ministry displayed their scientific and technical achievements. Organizations and institutions of the Education Ministry, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the State Science and Technologies Committee also had a joint stand at the exhibition.
