Lithuania’s Interior: 20K visas issued to Belarusians since autumn 2020

Lithuanian Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė has recently held a meeting with Belarusian opposition leader Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya in Vilnius.

Since September 2020, about 20,000 Lithuanian national visas have been granted to Belarusian citizens, the minister informed Tsikhanouskaya. According to the top official, she has given special permissions for entering Lithuania to 834 Belarusians due to ‘extraordinary humanitarian conditions’; 206 Belarusian nationals have applied for asylum in Lithuania.

In addition, Bilotaitė and Tsikhanouskaya discussed the security of Belarusian organisations and media in Lithuania.

Now it is very important that everyone who was forced to go abroad could feel safe. And we are grateful to Lithuania for all its efforts and assistance provided to the newcomers,” the press service quotes Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
