Authorities block accounts of Belarusian PEN Center and charity project

After searches and interrogations conducted last week, the Belarusian authorities started to block the accounts of NGOs.

On July 19, media reported about the arrest of the Belarusian PEN Center’s account. It is an international organization that promotes the protection of writers’ freedom of speech and professional rights.

The account has been seized based on the decision of the Investigative Committee of July 13, 2021.

Also, the accounts of the charity project ‘Imena'(Names), the office of which was searched last week, were seized. The founder of the project, Katsyaryna Sinyuk, wrote about it on Facebook. On July 14, the Investigative Committee arrested the accounts of “Names” for unknown reasons.

This means that now it is impossible to collect and transfer funds collected for charitable projects.

The organization’s lawyers are drafting a petition to the Investigative Committee to allow the transfer of funds.
