June 18, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Syarhei Aleinik held a meeting with U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Belarus Ruben Harutyunyan.
The Foreign Ministry noted that the parties discussed “the state and prospects of the Belarusian-American relations.”
The details of the discussion were reported by the American embassy. The Chargé reiterated U.S.’s and international community’s continued support for the Belarusian people’s demands to cease arbitrary/politically-motivated detentions, release all political prisoners, and start a genuine dialogue with all elements of Belarusian society leading to free/fair elections. Chargé Harutunian also objected to the recent, forced drawdown of the U.S. diplomatic presence in Belarus. He noted Ambassador Fisher’s unwavering commitment to support the democratic aspirations of Belarusians.
