Absolutbank stops foreign currency transactions after U.S. sanctions hit


According to the official report on the bank’s website, ‘Absolutbank’ has stopped servicing VISA cards and making currency transfers, including Western Union. The restrictions affect individuals, except for sole proprietors.

The following operations have been suspended by the bank:

Money transfers in foreign currencies, except for transfers in Russian rubles and transfers to accounts at resident banks; issuance and servicing of bank payment cards of the VISA international payment system; sending and issuing transfers in the international system “Western Union.”

On August 9, the bank came under U.S. sanctions. ‘Absolutbank’ is connected with the businessman Mikalai Varabey.
