'Whitewashing Putin': Russia Today anchor quits on air (video)

Liz Wahl, an American anchor for the Kremlin-funded news channel RT has quit on air and accused the network of whitewashing Moscow’s military intervention in Crimea.

She spoke of being from family who fled to America to escape Soviet forces during the 1956 Hungarian revolution, being the daughter of a U.S. military veteran and being the partner of a physician who works at a U.S. military base.

‘I cannot be part of a network funded by the Russian government that whitewashes the actions of Putin. I’m proud to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth, and that is why, after this newscast, I’m resigning.’

In an interview with the Daily Beast, Wahl said: ‘It actually makes me feel sick that I worked there. It’s not a sound news organization, not when your agenda is making America look bad.’

She is the second RT anchor to speak out against the invasion of Crimea, a sovereign region of Ukraine, by Russian forces. On Tuesday anchor Abby Martin said the incursion was ‘wrong’ but did not quit her job.
