Belarus loses right to host Biathlon World Cup

Belarus will not hold a stage of the IBU Biathlon World Cup, the International Biathlon Union has decided.

The competition was to be held in the sports complex “Raubichy” on March 3-6, 2022. However, the event was transferred to Kontiolahti, Finland.

“The decision to postpone the event was taken by the Executive Committee, taking into account the current situation in Belarus,” said the International Biathlon Union.

Previously, Minsk was denied the right to host the 2021 World Championship in ice hockey, the World Championships in pentathlon and laser tag, and the European Championships in table tennis. Furthermore, in October 2020, the World Chess Olympiad was also taken away from Belarus. These competitions were canceled because of the disastrous human rights situation in Belarus, violence, and political repression in the country.
