Eight more people convicted in Brest in round dance case


On March 15th , a Brest court passed a verdict on the second group of people in the so-called rounddance case. Two persons were sentenced to imprisonment, the others were punished with different kind of freedom restriction.

The judge Dzmitry Shuryn later nnounced the following verdict: 1 year 8 months in a general regime colony for Dzmitry Bunevich (detained on March 12), 1.5 years – for Alyaksei Artitski (he has been in pre-trial detention since February 20). Dzmitry Abramuk and Vital Brukha were sentenced to 2 years of freedom restriction, Dzmitry Kachurka, Uladzimir Talatynik and Alyaksei Baranouski received 1.5 years of freedom restriction, and Henadz Misuta – 1.5 years of freedom restriction.

The sentence of Valyantsina Zhukouskaya and Syarhei Naliuka will be announced later.

The only thing they were guilty of was dancing on September 13th in a Brest street. They were tried under article 342 of the Criminal Code (“Organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order”).

This is the second group of people convicted in this case, but it was the first time they were sentenced to imprisonment.
