According to the presidential administration, Aliaksandr Lukashenka’s mother Katsiaryna was admitted to maternity hospital on the evening of the 30th, but her son was born on the night of the 30th/31st. Earlier rural hospitals did not fix the exact time of a baby’s birth, and Aliaksandr Lukashenka was registered as born on August 30.
“The President goes easy on this day, and he used to think little of it until his youngest son Mikalai came into the world: he was born on August 31. After that the President felt interest in details of his coming to life and found out that he should celebrate his birthday on August 31,” officials said.
By the moment the official birthday date has been altered back because, on the authority of Pavel Liohki, the then presidential Press Secretary, Aliaksandr Lukashenka failed to change his passport. But his actual date of birth is August 31, 1954.
The head of state is to work according to the schedule today, his spokesman Siarhei Pelushkevich says.
