Potatoes disappeared in Belarus because retail chain owners intentionally hid them to demonstrate the ineffectiveness of Alyaksandr Lukashenka's governance. However, the security forces intervened, resolving the crisis with handcuffs. The politician himself frequently mentioned such a narrative. We wondered whether the authorities would now prefer to address every issue similarly—by using handcuffs for "politics."
