Ukraine stops transit of Belarusian potash fertilizers


Ukraine stops the transit of Belaruskali and Belarusian Potash Company mineral fertilizers by rail on February 16.

According to the Ukrainian Railways website, the ban on transportation applies to all recipients in Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, the CIS, and the Baltic States.

Transit will stop indefinitely – until the ban is lifted.

In 2021, 11.8 million tons of cargo were carried from Belarus through the Ukrainian railroads for further transit, reports Radio Liberty with Ukrazaliznytsia. Six hundred ninety-three thousand tons were potash, including 270,000 tons for Ukrainian companies.

According to the information from Ukrainian Railways, last year, the transit volume of potassium fertilizer to Turkey amounted to 220 thousand tons (62%), to Hungary – 64 thousand tons (18%), to Poland – 45 thousand tons (13%) and to Romania – 8 thousand tons (2%).

At the same time, according to Ukrazaliznytsia, 281 thousand tons of Belarusian potash fertilizers were transported through Ukrainian seaports in 2021.

On February 1, Lithuania stopped the transit of Belarusian potash fertilizers through its territory.
