Belsat TV contributors called to prosecutor’s office

Volha Chaychyts and Ales Silich have received calls to attend Smaliavichy district Prosecutor’s office.

The journalists put the call down to their presence at the public discussion of the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park project on April 13, 2013. Local residents and opposition activists also attended the meeting. Then police officers recorded the reporters’ personal data making a promise to “sort it out”. Volha Chaychyts and Ales Silich are due in the Prosecutor’s office on May, 30.

To our deepest regret, Belsat’s representatives have to perform their professional duties without any registration. In April 2013 Belsat TV made another attempt to get a formal accreditation and filed all the necessary documents to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But in vain: the Ministry’s officers refused to register its correspondent office in Minsk referring to Belsat contributors’ alleged law violations. It is the third time that Lukashenka’s regime has turned our application down.

(upd) Volha Chaychyts has got a written warning “against contribution for foreign mass media without having the MFA’s accreditation” from the Prosecutor’s office.
