KGB declares BelaPAN extremist formation

BelaPAN news agency has been recognized as an extremist formation by the KGB. Information about this appeared in the list of organizations, formations, and private individuals involved in extremist activity. The list is updated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.

KGB considers “a group of citizens from the staff of BelaPAN news agency” an extremist formation. The decision was taken on November 1, 2021.

The KGB will also consider extremist the Belapan logo.

The Belapan editor-in-chief Iryna Leushyna and former director Zmitser Navazhylau have been behind bars since summer.

They are charged under part 2 of article 243 of the Criminal Code (‘Tax evasion that resulted in large-scale damage’).

On November 3, it emerged that the authorities declared Belsat an extremist formation.
