A meeting of Belarusian opposition leader Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Austria’s Minister for EU Affairs and Constitution Karoline Edtstadler took place in Lithuania’s capital city.
According to the top Austrian official, she is ‘impressed by Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s courage and activity’.
“Austria supports civil society in Belarus. We are definitely on the side of democracy and justice,” Karoline Edtstadler said on Twitter on Monday evening.
In turn, Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya noted that the sides discussed the would-be holding of a high-level conference on the resolution of the current crisis in Belarus as well as the draft of the Consitution prepared by her team. It is crucial to continue diplomatic pressure on the regime and prevent the trade of political prisoners, she added.
In early July, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis presented diplomatic status to the office of Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya which is located in Vilnius.
